Responsibilities
- Own and evolve AWS environments and shared platform infrastructure for reliability, scalability, and ease of use.
- Design and build self-service tooling that helps engineers build, deploy, and operate services correctly.
- Automate common workflows and standardise infrastructure through infrastructure-as-code and platform abstractions.
- Define platform-level monitoring, alerting, metrics, and reliability standards.
- Own and improve continuous delivery and release capabilities for safe, repeatable, zero-downtime deployments.
- Respond to production incidents in an on-call rotation and use lessons learned to improve systems.
- Mentor and upskill engineers across the team and wider engineering organisation.
Requirements
- Proven experience owning and operating web platforms in production at scale.
- Strong production experience with AWS.
- Experience defining actionable metrics, monitoring, and alerting for web platforms.
- Experience with platform-level security controls, observability, and responding to abnormal or unsafe system behaviour.
- Experience designing and operating continuous delivery systems that support safe, repeatable, zero-downtime deployments.
- Experience responding to production incidents in an on-call environment.
- Comfort with command-line tools and environments.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language used for automation or tooling.
- Ability to solve complex cross-cutting problems collaboratively in a fast-moving environment.
- Enjoyment of mentoring and sharing knowledge with engineering teams.
