Base Salary
$196k - $221k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own high-impact projects within complex distributed systems that scale Discord Safety operations.
- Improve production services processing millions of enforcement decisions per day.
- Participate in the team’s 24/7 on-call rotation.
- Apply adversarial thinking to anticipate abuse patterns, edge cases, and failure modes.
- Partner with Trust & Safety, Policy, ML, Data Science, and Legal teams on policy, compliance, and enforcement changes.
- Define and baseline enforcement metrics such as recidivism rate, over-enforcement rate, and unintended churn with Data Science.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend services and infrastructure.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems and production services at scale using GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, Pub/Sub, KKV, and gRPC.
- Ability to own projects end-to-end and deliver results in ambiguous or transitional environments.
- Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate complex, multi-service codebases.
- Ability to anticipate misuse, edge cases, and vulnerabilities in systems targeted by bad actors.
- Experience participating in 24/7 on-call rotations.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across Trust & Safety, Policy, Legal, or Operations stakeholders.
- Experience using generative AI products such as Claude Code in daily workflows.
- Content moderation, trust and safety, enforcement infrastructure, legally mandated reporting, compliance-sensitive systems, workflow automation, decision systems, observability tooling, SLOs, dashboards, Datadog, or Rust experience is preferred.
