Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve the Rust- and Python-based software stack, including operational reliability, performance, and technical debt reduction.
- Integrate Python-based reinforcement-learning agents with Rust runtime systems for low-latency, reproducible inference.
- Develop autonomous decision-making pipelines from sensor data through RL inference to tactical execution, including failure-mode handling.
- Build and maintain distributed training, evaluation pipelines, and large-scale runs on custom simulators.
- Develop tests and benchmarks at micro and macro levels, including hardware-in-the-loop simulations and flight testing.
- Handle distributed systems, intermittent connectivity, and bespoke hardware protocols.
- Review code contributions, proposals, and RFCs for robustness, safety, and airborne performance standards.
- Implement new features, algorithms, infrastructure, and products across the airborne mission-systems stack.
- Mentor colleagues, participate in interviewing, and share technical knowledge through talks and learning groups.
Requirements
- Ability to write legible, maintainable, and performant code.
- Strong backend or embedded development experience, ideally with Rust, Go, or C++.
- Comfort working with Python in ML-heavy parts of the stack.
- Experience collaborating on complex system architectures involving close hardware-software integration is expected.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience deploying reinforcement-learning or machine-learning agents in real-world systems is a nice-to-have.
- Safety programming experience is a nice-to-have.
- Familiarity with low-level flight-control systems and their interfaces is a nice-to-have.
- Experience with sensor integration and sensor-fusion techniques is a nice-to-have.
- Robotics or control-systems experience is a nice-to-have.
- Production ML systems experience is a nice-to-have.
- Experience with hardware interfaces such as Arduino is a nice-to-have.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation and VSOP options.
- Relocation support.
- Social and education allowances.
- Regular company events and all-hands across Europe.
- Outcome-focused work rather than time-tracking.
About Helsing
Helsing was founded to provide Artificial Intelligence to protect our democracies. Helsing works with partners in governments and across industry. Together, we develop systems that leverage AI and autonomy to provide autonomous mass that is sovereign, scalable and affordable. We’re looking for people with their heart in the right place, who share our conviction that liberal democratic values are worth protecting, for ourselves and for future generations.
