Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain FHIR R4 servers and APIs supporting payer-relevant resources and operations, including CRUD, search, history, bulk data, and subscriptions.
- Define and manage FHIR profiles, extensions, value sets, and terminology bindings for payer use cases.
- Map and transform membership, claims, benefits, authorizations, and other payer data into FHIR-compliant formats.
- Build Java 17 or later and Spring Boot microservices using clean architecture and domain-driven design principles.
- Develop and integrate RESTful and event-driven APIs using Kafka.
- Implement and customize HAPI FHIR for persistence, validation, and serialization.
- Apply SMART on FHIR, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect for authentication and authorization.
- Ensure HIPAA-compliant handling of protected health information through encryption, audit logging, and access controls.
- Deploy and scale applications in Microsoft Azure using Docker and Kubernetes, including AKS.
- Design resilient systems using retries, circuit breakers, idempotency, and dead-letter queues.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.
- Establish unit, integration, and performance testing strategies and observability practices.
- Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to architecture decisions.
- Improve scalability, latency, reliability, security, compliance, documentation, and engineering automation across the platform.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional Java development experience.
- Strong expertise in Java 11, preferably Java 17, and Spring Boot.
- At least 3 years of hands-on FHIR experience, with R4 required and R5 preferred.
- Experience with core FHIR resources, profiles, extensions, validation, and versioning.
- Proven experience configuring and customizing HAPI FHIR servers.
- Solid understanding of payer healthcare data domains, including members, coverage, claims, and benefits.
- Experience implementing OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SMART on FHIR.
- Hands-on experience with Azure, Kafka or an equivalent technology, and MongoDB and/or relational databases.
- Experience building and operating cloud-native microservices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in regulated environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with Bulk FHIR, asynchronous workflows, X12 transactions, HL7 v2, CDA/CCDA, terminology services, API gateways, Terraform, Bicep, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and CMS/ONC interoperability initiatives or payer programs.
