Responsibilities

  • Architect and build a production-grade Excel plugin integrating AlphaSense’s AI capabilities.
  • Work with Excel’s object model, calculation engine, and event system to create native-feeling features.
  • Support Excel 2016, Excel 2019, and Office 365 across Windows and Mac, including corporate proxies, SSO, offline scenarios, and IT restrictions.
  • Optimize memory usage, performance, error handling, and recovery so the plugin does not slow down Excel.
  • Define desktop development, testing, deployment, and monitoring best practices for Office plugins.
  • Mentor engineers and establish development standards for desktop software.
  • Migrate the internal Excel add-in from legacy infrastructure to AlphaSense’s platform.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building production software, including significant desktop application or Office add-in experience.
  • Deep expertise in C# and .NET.
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, state management, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with enterprise software deployment, updates, and version management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build performant applications with strong error handling and recovery.
  • Experience debugging complex integration issues and optimizing memory and performance.
  • A strong testing philosophy adapted to desktop environments.
  • Ability to mentor teams and establish development best practices.
  • Preferred experience with C#, VSTO, or COM add-ins and knowledge of Excel’s calculation engine, object model, and power-user patterns.
  • Preferred knowledge of AWS, financial modeling, data analysis workflows, trading systems, web development technologies, XLSX, CSV, JSON, offline-capable applications, synchronization mechanisms, WebSocket connections, real-time data feeds, or streaming architectures.

Benefits

  • Base compensation is listed at $132,000–$181,700 CAD annually.
