Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, build, and test production vehicle firmware for safety-critical systems.
- Develop and optimize RTOS applications for reliability, latency, throughput, memory footprint, and power on resource-constrained platforms.
- Own communication architecture between MCUs, sensors, and main compute using standard and custom protocols.
- Lead bootloader, driver, diagnostic, board, and SoC bring-up from prototype through production.
- Build automated unit, integration, and system testing frameworks and harnesses.
- Mentor embedded engineers, conduct code reviews, and help establish engineering standards, tools, and best practices.
Requirements
- Expert-level C and/or C++ experience for embedded systems.
- Strong knowledge of SPI, UART, I2C, CAN, TCP, UDP, and other communication protocols.
- Experience developing in RTOS environments such as PX5, embedded Linux with pthreads, QNX, VxWorks, or RTEMS.
- Experience with MCU bootloaders, device drivers, board or SoC bring-up, and multi-device firmware deployment.
- Demonstrated optimization of speed and size on resource-constrained platforms.
- Experience with safety-critical systems and processes such as ISO 26262 is highly valued.
- Understanding of the embedded software development life cycle, including version control, code review, CI, and automated testing.
- Typically 7+ years developing embedded software for production systems, including substantial work on safety-critical or highly reliable platforms.
- Preferred qualifications include automotive or transit experience, automotive safety MCUs such as NXP S32K3, Infineon AURIX, or TI TMS570, kernel internals, deterministic timing and networking, CAN tooling, DBC workflows, electronics test equipment, hardware debugging, and Python scripting.
Benefits
- The role works on-site with hands-on access to vehicle hardware and close collaboration across embedded, electrical, test, and platform engineering teams.
- Glydways provides equal employment opportunities and prohibits discrimination and harassment.
About Glydways
Glydways builds on-demand urban transit systems that use small autonomous electric vehicles running on dedicated, low-footprint guideways. It designs and manufactures the vehicles and infrastructure and partners with cities, transit agencies, and private developers to deploy and operate the service. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in South San Francisco, the privately held company targets high-capacity, carbon-neutral mobility for dense corridors and campus-scale connections.
