Base Salary
$175k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Research retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI techniques and evaluate their roadmap relevance
- Rapidly prototype promising ideas and turn validated concepts into production-grade features
- Build and maintain backend and frontend systems for Agents Schema pipelines and the Context Catalog UI
- Contribute to AISQL, translating natural language into SQL grounded in dbt metric definitions and executing it against data warehouses
- Own production reliability through on-call rotation, incident response, and SRE work
- Write and maintain tests and perform hands-on QA
- Use coding agents to automate repetitive engineering tasks
- Partner with product and design to shape the AI product roadmap
- Develop software designs and contribute to the Fivetran AI technical roadmap
- Participate in the hiring interview process
Requirements
- 5+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java
- Ability to execute complex, ambiguous work with minimal hand-holding and operate as a trusted expert
- Ability to read AI/ML research and turn relevant findings into working prototypes
- Strong product and market awareness for evaluating emerging AI techniques
- Experience with SQL and data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks
- Willingness to work across research, backend, frontend, SRE, and QA
- Ability to write well-structured, performant code and improve unfamiliar codebases
- Experience using coding agents or similar AI tooling
- Analytical approach to identifying system gaps and designing pragmatic improvements
- Ability to thrive in a startup-like environment with shifting priorities and high ownership
- Preferred experience with LLM-powered applications, including RAG pipelines, embeddings, evaluation frameworks, or agent frameworks
- Preferred familiarity with semantic layers such as dbt, LookML, or Sigma
- Preferred experience with the MCP ecosystem or AI agent integrations
- Preferred site reliability experience, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Preferred data processing, ETL/ELT, or data connector experience
- Preferred cloud experience with AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, or Docker
- Open source contributions to AI or data projects
