Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable, reliable Tier-1 services for order planning, fulfilment optimization, inventory allocation, and network cost management.
- Own architecture for distributed systems involving gRPC service meshes, Kafka event pipelines, CPLEX solvers, multi-layer caching, and multi-region deployments.
- Write and review production code in Kotlin and Java with strong standards for correctness, performance, and operational safety.
- Lead design and code reviews, identifying correctness, scalability, latency, and operational risks.
- Drive reliability through circuit breakers, retries, graceful degradation, observability, capacity planning, and incident prevention.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, and Operations to translate fulfilment optimization goals into technical execution.
- Mentor engineers and develop reusable technical mechanisms, pipeline patterns, adapter abstractions, and feature-flag practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and operating high-scale distributed systems with strict latency and reliability requirements.
- Excellent hands-on backend coding ability in Kotlin or Java.
- Deep understanding of API design, concurrency, data modelling, caching, messaging, and service-to-service communication using gRPC and REST.
- Strong code review skills and ability to identify correctness, performance, and reliability issues in complex codebases.
- Experience operating production systems with high QPS, large data volumes, or Tier-1 SLAs.
- Experience with Kafka-based event-driven architectures at scale and multi-region systems.
- Experience with resilience engineering, including circuit breakers, retry strategies, load testing, capacity planning, and graceful degradation.
- Track record of technical leadership, architecture direction, cross-team alignment, and mentoring senior engineers.
- Preferred experience in ecommerce, fulfilment, supply chain, logistics, inventory, order management, or planning systems.
- Preferred experience with CPLEX, OR-Tools, decision engines, constraint programming, or production optimization systems.
- Preferred experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Copilot, Devin, or Claude Code.
- Preferred experience with Spec-Driven Development, OpenAPI/Swagger, Protocol Buffers, API-first design, or contract-first development.
