Responsibilities
- Design and build distributed services, control planes, workflow engines, and platform APIs for AI compute cluster lifecycle management.
- Build secure-by-default cluster bootstrap, Kubernetes control planes, networking, identity and access, image distribution, secrets, infrastructure-as-code, and cluster metadata capabilities.
- Automate rack and node qualification, topology validation, scale testing, and the transition from delivered hardware to healthy, schedulable fleet capacity.
- Develop telemetry, diagnostics, health-signal, lifecycle-state, and remediation systems for hardware, hosts, networks, and storage.
- Build policy-driven automation for certification, maintenance, safe software rollouts, and rollback.
- Use benchmarks, workload profiles, production evidence, and fault injection to improve architecture, efficiency, failure detection, and recovery.
- Turn incidents and recurring operational work into durable software, guardrails, and automated workflows.
- Partner with research, hardware health, networking, storage, security, and datacenter teams on compute infrastructure architecture.
- Provide technical leadership through design reviews, architecture decisions, code quality, mentoring, and complex cross-team initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field and 4+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years designing and implementing scalable software for cloud, datacenter, cluster, or fleet infrastructure using a general-purpose language such as Go, Rust, C++, C#, Java, or Python.
- Experience with Kubernetes or comparable cluster orchestration, Linux systems, public-cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure-as-code or declarative configuration.
- Ability to debug complex behavior across service, control-plane, operating-system, networking, and hardware boundaries and convert findings into robust software improvements.
- Experience leading projects across multiple teams and communicating technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred: master's degree and 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: hyperscale compute infrastructure experience, cluster and node lifecycle systems, Kubernetes internals, cloud foundations, health and remediation platforms, low-level systems, GPU or accelerator systems, high-performance interconnects and storage, and production reliability or incident response.
- Preferred: ability to create alignment across senior stakeholders, mentor engineers, drive multi-quarter initiatives, and write clean, testable, maintainable, secure, and well-documented code.
Benefits
- The role is based at a designated Microsoft office at least four days per week for employees living within 50 miles in the U.S. or 25 miles in non-U.S. locations, subject to local law and jurisdiction.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled, with the position open for at least five days.
