Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision for realtime streaming control, the Python SDK, ROS 2 integration, and safety limits for robot control.
  • Generalize customer-specific fixes into stable, production-ready platform capabilities for all developers using the APIs.
  • Act as the customer’s technical point of contact and translate onsite observations into prioritized, testable requirements.
  • Ship and release-gate fixes and features across TypeScript/Node.js services, the Python SDK, a ROS 2 adapter, and the robot controller.
  • Root-cause realtime streaming faults, networking and environment issues, safety stops, and collision behavior, then create fixes, tests, and runbooks.
  • Lead customer working sessions, contribute to roadmap reviews, and help customer engineers diagnose and integrate independently.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including end-to-end ownership of a technical problem space and leadership of complex cross-team work.
  • Experience debugging distributed systems involving Linux, containers, networking, logs, timing, and unfamiliar hardware.
  • Direct experience with demanding technical customers and the judgment to balance urgent fixes with durable roadmap solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication for requirements, incident write-ups, and technical decisions.
  • Fluency in Python and TypeScript/Node.js, with range across React, C++, and Kubernetes.
  • Working knowledge of ROS 2 is preferred.
  • Experience with forward deployed, solutions, or customer-embedded engineering is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS 2, streaming or trajectory APIs, motion control at 100 Hz or above, safety stops, or collision handling is a plus.

Benefits

  • The role is onsite at the customer’s San Francisco Bay Area facility five days per week for the first nine to twelve months.
  • Includes approximately one month of onboarding with the team, at least two weeks in the New York City office, and a return to New York for one week every one to two months.
  • After the onsite engagement, the role continues on the SDK and external APIs team.
  • New York office perks include direct access to physical robotics and testing cells, collaborative and focus spaces, customizable workstations, catered lunch, stocked kitchens, and team events.
  • Full-time employees are eligible for employee stock options, paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and a 401(k).

About Standard Bots

51-200 employees

We believe AI-native robots are the essential power tool of the 21st century — the tool that will grow American manufacturing and help every American worker to be a force at work. You just show your robot how it’s done, and it learns through demonstration. No coding, no consultants, just unbox and deploy faster than anything else on the market. We are expanding our Glen Cove, New York facility to 70,000 square feet to scale our vertically integrated production process. We currently design almost all our own parts, including our own actuators, and we assemble every final product in-house. By 2027, we’ll manufacture everything — from metal in to robots out — right here in America. More at standardbots.com
