Principal Architect, AI Developer Experience Platform

Responsibilities
- Define the end-to-end architecture for AI-augmented development using enterprise AI coding assistants and LLM platforms.
- Design scalable codebase and documentation context strategies for large-context LLMs across hundreds of repositories.
- Establish AI coding standards, reusable agentic workflow patterns, prompt templates, tool configurations, and policy-as-code guardrails.
- Integrate AI-powered code review with AST analysis, static and dynamic checks, observability signals, test coverage, performance scans, canary releases, and blue/green delivery.
- Lead vendor evaluations, proofs of concept, technical success criteria, and executive recommendations for AI developer tooling.
- Drive developer adoption through internal frameworks, guidance, curricula, hands-on labs, and AI-assisted development workflows.
- Partner with InfoSec, Data Governance, Legal, SRE, Reliability Engineering, DevEx, TPMs, and engineering leadership on security, compliance, reliability, governance, and adoption.
- Own engineering intelligence dashboards and leadership reports covering developer productivity, DORA metrics, MTTR, CFR, SLOs, and AI tooling ROI.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, platform or developer tools, or infrastructure engineering, including significant Staff or Principal-level experience in a 300+ engineer product organization.
- 3+ years of designing and shipping LLM-powered developer tools or workflows in production.
- Proven experience architecting developer platforms or large-scale internal tooling used by hundreds of engineers.
- Deep understanding of LLM context-window design, retrieval strategies, prompt engineering at scale, and polyglot codebases.
- Hands-on experience integrating an enterprise AI coding assistant into IDEs and Git hosting platforms.
- Strong experience with AST-based code analysis, static and dynamic analysis, and policy-as-code for automated pull request review.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD systems, progressive delivery, and embedding AI into development pipelines.
- Strong grounding in security and compliance for SaaS and AI/ML systems, including data residency and FedRAMP requirements.
- Experience serving as a cross-organizational technical leader and aligning Staff/Principal engineers, engineering managers, and product managers around shared architecture and standards.
- Ability to present technical tradeoffs and ROI to senior leadership, produce design documents and evaluation criteria, mentor technical teams, and drive complex multi-quarter programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- U.S. base salary range of $216,000–$300,000, varying by candidate location.
