Responsibilities
- Lead Elasticsearch initiatives that improve search speed and relevance.
- Design and implement new search features and enhancements for Elasticsearch and Lucene.
- Develop Java software, including algorithms, data structures, and concurrency-oriented components.
- Work on Elasticsearch vector-search capabilities with a globally distributed engineering team.
- Identify and drive improvements to search relevance and resolve complex bugs.
- Collaborate with global community members on issues and pull requests, including triage and handoff.
- Contribute to technical direction, project ownership, code reviews, and cross-functional initiatives.
Requirements
- Professional experience with search or vector databases and algorithms such as HNSW or IVF on search platforms at scale.
- Strong core Java skills, including standard-library data structures, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.
- Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from technical design through implementation.
- Experience collaborating on software development, code review, APIs, and distributed or asynchronous teams.
- Experience with data-storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and transition between projects, codebases, and teams.
- Bonus qualifications include prior Elasticsearch development, open-source experience, source-control and continuous-integration workflow familiarity, and experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
