Responsibilities
- Design and develop software for physical AI and autonomous-system research use cases.
- Build Kotlin backend services and Android device-side components, with Ktor experience highly desirable.
- Develop and integrate Android applications and services for connected devices, drones, and edge-computing platforms.
- Implement APIs, WebSockets, and event-driven interfaces between devices, edge platforms, and cloud services.
- Integrate drone platforms, SDKs, telemetry services, sensors, cameras, and other physical devices.
- Process real-time telemetry, location, sensor, image, and video metadata.
- Support command-and-control interactions with autonomous and remotely operated devices.
- Prototype new use cases from experimentation through working demonstrators and proofs of concept.
- Investigate AI/ML and computer vision services in physical and autonomous-system workflows.
- Design solutions for device, edge, and cloud environments, including intermittent or constrained connectivity.
- Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure communications.
- Develop automated unit, integration, and API tests and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
- Diagnose issues across applications, networks, devices, and cloud infrastructure.
- Document architecture, APIs, experiments, and research findings.
- Collaborate with researchers, software engineers, network specialists, AI specialists, and external technology partners.
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 6 years of Android Developer experience.
- Strong Kotlin development experience and Android application and service development using Android SDK and lifecycle concepts.
- Backend development experience using Kotlin; Ktor experience is particularly valuable.
- Experience designing REST APIs and asynchronous or event-driven services using HTTP, WebSockets, and messaging patterns.
- Experience with Kotlin Coroutines, JSON, data serialization, third-party SDKs and APIs, Git, automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD, Docker, and a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed applications and services.
- Desirable experience includes drone/UAV development, MAVLink, PX4, ArduPilot, DJI SDKs, edge computing, edge AI, computer vision, video analytics, AI/ML inference services, WebRTC, RTSP, MQTT, Kafka, GPS/GNSS, geospatial data, mapping, IoT telemetry, 4G/5G, Linux, Kubernetes, observability, PostgreSQL, NoSQL or time-series databases, and Python.
- Understanding of security, privacy, safety, and responsible AI principles for systems involving physical devices, cameras, location information, and public-safety applications.
