Responsibilities
- Design and deliver Azure cost and usage data products, including pipelines, allocation and showback models, anomaly detection, and reporting surfaces.
- Own the Databricks cost and usage data platform, ingesting Azure Cost Management exports, reservation and Savings Plan data, resource inventory, and tagging metadata into Delta Lake.
- Build Power BI semantic models using DAX, composite and DirectQuery designs, TMDL, and XMLA.
- Lead cloud-cost optimization initiatives including right-sizing, autoscaling, storage tiering, data transfer and egress optimization, and orphaned-resource cleanup.
- Own reserved-capacity and Savings Plan strategy by modeling commitment scenarios against usage patterns and seasonal retail demand.
- Build tagging, allocation, budget, Azure Policy, and exception-reporting guardrails to improve cost attribution and hygiene.
- Develop unit economics such as cost per order, customer, and request, and support forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis with Finance.
- Engage Product Delivery Teams on architecture reviews, cost trade-offs, optimization decisions, and measurable savings.
- Set technical direction for FinOps data architecture, modeling patterns, and engineering standards while contributing to design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring.
- Experiment with agentic AI workflows using GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, and write high-quality, well-tested code.
- Work with Cyber Security to embed access standards and compliance requirements into the platform.
Requirements
- Senior-level software engineering experience with ownership of ambiguous, high-impact, cross-team technical problems.
- Strong experience building data pipelines, data platforms, data models, and production engineering systems.
- Experience with Python, Databricks, Delta Lake, SQL warehouses, Azure, Power BI, DAX, TMDL, DirectQuery, and XMLA.
- Experience with Azure Cost Management, resource allocation, cloud optimization, tagging, budgets, policies, and usage or telemetry data.
- Ability to quantify cloud savings, model commitment scenarios, develop unit economics, and explain cost movements to both engineers and Finance.
- Ability to set technical direction, influence Product Delivery Teams, communicate clearly, and mentor other engineers.
- Experience working with GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and modern coding and automation workflows.
- Interest in or experience with agentic development workflows using GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.
- Commitment to test-first development, reliable systems, access standards, and compliance.
