Base Salary
$185k - $275k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build a zero-to-one video pipeline that captures feeds from in-store cameras, encodes them, and delivers video for on-site processing or cloud ingestion and storage.
- Make decisions about video codecs, encoding formats, bitrate and quality tradeoffs, and adaptive streaming protocols.
- Implement initial end-to-end features such as monitoring views and video feeds for AI features.
- Design and revise pragmatic system architecture despite incomplete information and changing real-world store conditions.
- Collaborate with hardware, ML, and backend engineers while handling varied camera hardware, unreliable networks, and physical deployment environments.
- Debug store connectivity issues and build services that process or transmit video.
- Own work across the product lifecycle, from ideation and prototyping through execution and shipping.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant coding experience and a record of independently shipping production code.
- B.S. or higher in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
- Strong Python skills and the ability to learn and use additional languages and tools as needed.
- Hands-on experience with video codecs, encoding, and streaming protocols through video player, media pipeline, or streaming platform work.
- Experience with both edge/device code and cloud services.
- Experience building a new service, system, or other zero-to-one project without existing scaffolding.
- Ability to work with substantial system ownership and limited initial domain support.
- Preferred: startup or newly formed team experience, field camera or video hardware experience, collaboration with ML engineers, Terraform or Ansible knowledge, AWS experience, algorithms and data structures knowledge, and fluency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
