Responsibilities
- Design and build Elasticsearch platforms for customers across self-managed, orchestrated, managed, air-gapped, and regulated deployments.
- Own workload-based sizing and capacity planning, validating designs through benchmarking.
- Perform production health checks and remediation, including sharding, mapping, index, lifecycle, and retention redesign.
- Lead major-version upgrades, snapshot and disaster recovery strategy, and multi-cluster architectures.
- Diagnose performance issues across Elastic, the JVM, operating systems, storage, networking, and adjacent systems.
- Conduct customer discovery, present technical designs, and own engagement outcomes end to end.
- Build reusable tooling, automation, intellectual property, and AI-assisted tools for diagnosis, configuration, and reporting.
- Mentor other consultants and contribute to the GCC technical practice.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of hands-on experience with the Elastic Stack, primarily in cluster and platform work.
- Deep expertise in shard strategy, index and mapping design, lifecycle and retention across data tiers, and cluster performance.
- Experience designing and executing snapshot, restore, disaster recovery, and major-version upgrade processes in production.
- Experience with self-managed plus at least one managed or orchestrated Elastic deployment model.
- Strong troubleshooting knowledge of heap and garbage collection, circuit breakers, thread pool rejections, shard allocation, and expensive queries.
- Elastic Certified Engineer certification or demonstrable knowledge sufficient to obtain it within the first quarter.
- Strong Linux and operating system fundamentals with solid storage and networking knowledge.
- Experience troubleshooting shared infrastructure and coordinating with teams responsible for adjacent workloads.
- Ability to work directly with customer architects, platform owners, and engineering leadership and own technical outcomes.
