Responsibilities
- Build and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
- Improve concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain cluster coordination while preserving system safety, liveness, and performance as nodes and data change.
- Scale Elasticsearch across larger numbers of shards, nodes, and petabytes of data.
- Investigate and resolve performance, concurrency, and stability issues end-to-end.
- Support support engineers with complex technical problems.
- Own projects from technical design through implementation and completion.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong core Java skills, including standard-library data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
- Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Experience working on complex distributed systems rather than relying only on off-the-shelf services.
- Ability to build and debug features with broad impact across multiple machines.
- Ability to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design and cross-functional development.
- Proven use of AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while retaining ownership of outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate across teams, transition between projects and codebases, and work autonomously in a distributed environment.
- Bonus: experience with data stores, search, analytics, Lucene, the JDK, or asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.
