Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain firmware for networking routers with Wi-Fi capabilities.
  • Own Wi-Fi firmware architecture and drive integration strategy across software, hardware interfaces, and platform components.
  • Work with hardware engineers to bring up new products and support custom hardware features.
  • Implement and optimize Layer 2/3 networking protocols, traffic management, routing, and switching features.
  • Develop Linux-based embedded systems, including bootloaders, kernel modules, and device drivers.
  • Integrate open-source platforms such as OpenWRT and Yocto into production firmware.
  • Troubleshoot issues across hardware, firmware, and software layers to improve system stability and performance.
  • Collaborate with software developers, QA, and product managers to define and deliver features.
  • Tune Wi-Fi performance, including throughput, latency, airtime fairness, RF behavior, and system efficiency.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of Wi-Fi experience with architectural ownership.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems, device drivers, shell scripting, and system-level concepts.
  • Understanding of IP, TCP, UDP, Ethernet, routing, and switching.
  • Experience with embedded platforms such as ARM-based SoCs, microcontrollers, or development boards.
  • Knowledge of 802.11 standards, including Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7.
  • Knowledge of WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise, 802.1X, and EAP.
  • Knowledge of the Linux Wi-Fi stack and daemons such as hostapd.
  • Experience with MAC-layer development, PHY interaction, rate-control algorithms, power management, and security features.
  • Experience integrating Wi-Fi SoCs from vendors such as Qualcomm, Broadcom, and MediaTek.
  • Experience conducting Wi-Fi performance tuning for throughput, latency, airtime fairness, and RF behavior.
