Responsibilities

  • Author, test, review, and optimize production-quality code using infrastructure as code, version control, and continuous delivery practices.
  • Design, build, and operate AI-powered applications and production systems, including LLM-based content understanding and consumer-facing AI features.
  • Integrate ML and foundation models into production applications with guardrails, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Develop AI platform capabilities including prompt management, evaluation, caching, versioning, deployment, and tenant management.
  • Design highly available, low-latency, and efficient software while driving monitoring, alerting, documentation, and long-term code health.
  • Provide technical input on system architecture, drive technical decisions, and independently ship high-quality features.
  • Partner with ML engineers, editorial, product, and platform stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable AI features.
  • Build internal AI-assisted workflows and communicate through technical documentation, code reviews, design reviews, and stakeholder interactions.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or at least 2 years with a master’s degree.
  • Strong backend engineering experience with data-intensive applications at web scale.
  • Proficiency in Python and at least one of Go, Java, or C++.
  • Solid foundation in relational databases such as Postgres, NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and ship highly available, low-latency systems.
  • Preferred experience integrating LLMs or foundation models into production applications.
  • Preferred familiarity with prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, or LLM observability.
  • Preferred experience with classification, content understanding, information retrieval systems, experimentation frameworks, or A/B testing.
  • Prior experience on a machine learning or AI team and a background in media, publishing, or news organizations are preferred.
