Responsibilities
- Detect, analyze, and prevent infrastructure issues using SLIs, SLOs, automation, proactive remediation, monitoring, and post-mortems.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams on network capacity planning, growth plans, and data center and Point of Presence network builds.
- Provide Tier 1 troubleshooting for switch provisioning, network-related server build failures, and complex physical-layer network defects.
- Manage console DNS mapping, connectivity troubleshooting, automation verification, network audits, and operational handoffs to internal customers.
- Own network hardware failure response, switch swaps, appliance replacements, and RMA processes.
- Troubleshoot Layer 1 optical network issues using OTDR tests.
- Partner with Data Center and Network Engineering teams on structured cabling and fabric switch uplifts for large-scale data center expansions.
- Lead operational excellence projects, network studies, link and hardware stability analysis, and infrastructure optimization efforts.
- Participate in working groups to evaluate and adopt new technologies and methodologies.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional production engineering experience and 5+ years contributing to architecture and design of new and existing systems.
- A BS/BA in a technical field or equivalent practical experience, or 8+ years of relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure design, operational trade-offs, network fundamentals, data center architectures, structured cabling, and information security best practices.
- 2+ years of experience with BGP, MPLS, L3VPN, VPLS, Multicast, CoS, TCP, and IPv4/IPv6.
- 2+ years of experience as a Network Engineer for a content or network provider.
- Experience with Python, Go, or similar programming languages; Unix/Linux environments; TCP/IP; network programming; logging, monitoring, and alerting systems.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, CloudFormation, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with CLOS data center network architectures and SMF/MMF structured cabling.
- Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of Python, Perl, or other scripting experience; Ansible, REST, gRPC, and NETCONF experience; CCNP/JNCIS-equivalent certifications; open-source Network Operating Systems; and experience testing or deploying new hardware platforms.
