Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for messaging infrastructure at scale.
- Drive architectural coherence across teams and resolve cross-system dependencies and platform-level technical debt.
- Lead technical due diligence for build-versus-buy decisions, vendor evaluations, and platform migrations.
- Identify and solve complex, ambiguous technical problems spanning organizational boundaries.
- Develop comprehensive solutions with validation, rollback, and testing plans while forecasting time, financial, and opportunity costs.
- Monitor industry developments and lead strategic initiatives for emerging messaging and data-infrastructure challenges.
- Shape company-wide standards for engineering excellence, observability, and reliability in distributed systems.
- Mentor Staff and Senior Engineers through design reviews, documentation standards, and hands-on technical guidance.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience with progressive technical leadership scope.
- Track record of leading cross-team technical initiatives with measurable business outcomes.
- Ability to influence without authority, build consensus across organizational boundaries, and explain technical tradeoffs in business terms.
- Deep expertise in distributed-systems architecture handling hundreds of millions of transactions and terabytes of data.
- Significant-scale experience with event streaming and messaging infrastructure such as Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.
- Experience with scalable relational data stores including PostgreSQL, Vitess, and Spanner, as well as NoSQL systems such as Bigtable and Redis.
- Operational experience with cloud-native infrastructure on GCP or AWS, including Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and highly available system design.
- Strong backend engineering foundation, with Go preferred and Python, Java, or C# acceptable.
- Experience with messaging delivery systems, carrier or aggregator integrations, or telecommunications infrastructure is valued.
- Data-platform architecture experience involving streaming pipelines, data lakes, warehouses, or distributed analytics is valued.
- Experience in compliance-heavy environments such as healthcare or fintech is valued.
- Experience shaping AI/ML infrastructure or integrating AI capabilities into production systems is valued.
- External technical leadership through open-source contributions, conference speaking, or published technical writing is valued.
