Responsibilities
- Design, build, deploy, monitor, and operate backend systems supporting inventory, purchasing, warehouse operations, pricing, and fulfillment.
- Own technical solutions end to end from problem definition and architecture through production operation.
- Solve complex, data-heavy operational problems involving forecasting, optimization, and decision-making.
- Make architectural trade-offs balancing scalability, reliability, development speed, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and operations teams to shape technical direction.
- Improve system reliability, observability, scalability, and operational excellence.
- Contribute to engineering standards through technical discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Use AI-assisted development tools effectively while validating their output and applying sound engineering judgment.
Requirements
- Strong experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems.
- Professional experience with Go, Kotlin, or another modern backend language.
- Experience owning services end to end, including design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, reliability, and production operations.
- Strong knowledge of backend and distributed-systems fundamentals, including APIs, databases, asynchronous processing, failure handling, testing, and observability.
- Comfort working with data-heavy systems and streaming or data infrastructure such as Kafka and Snowflake.
- Ability to navigate ambiguous problems, make technical trade-offs, and deliver incrementally.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Clear and concise communication of technical concepts and decisions.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated solutions and take ownership of resulting code and technical decisions.
- Nice-to-have experience with forecasting, optimization, scheduling, recommendation, decisioning, grocery, retail, logistics, supply chain, warehouse technology, ERP, procurement, workforce management integrations, legacy-platform replacement, or high-throughput event-driven architectures.
