Responsibilities

  • Design and build Nubank’s payments gateway backend for processing POS and Tap to Pay transactions.
  • Verticalize partner-provided capabilities by developing our own Payment SDK.
  • Design architecture for constrained Payment environments, collaborating with embedded/mobile teams.
  • Act as a technical bridge between acquiring solutions to ensure a robust transaction processing flow.
  • Integrate with acquirers and networks, designing flows for authorizations and settlements.
  • Lead long-term platform design for acquiring and gateway, focusing on scalable components.
  • Seed and multiply domain knowledge through design reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Collaborate with external experts and partners in technical discussions.

Requirements

  • Staff-level backend engineering experience designing and operating high-scale systems.
  • Strong background in payments, POS, and acquiring backends with transaction processing experience.
  • Hands-on experience with ISO 8583 or similar card-payment protocols.
  • Experience working with POS or embedded payments hardware teams.
  • Proven track record designing and evolving gateways or switches connecting to multiple acquirers.
  • Ability to operate as a technical leader and mentor senior engineers.
  • Strong communication skills and resilience in complex situations.
  • Experience with PCI DSS v4.0 compliance standards.
  • Comfort working in a hybrid model in Brazil, collaborating in English and Portuguese.
