Responsibilities
- Design and build Nubank’s payments gateway backend for processing POS and Tap to Pay transactions.
- Verticalize partner-provided capabilities by developing our own Payment SDK.
- Design architecture for constrained Payment environments, collaborating with embedded/mobile teams.
- Act as a technical bridge between acquiring solutions to ensure a robust transaction processing flow.
- Integrate with acquirers and networks, designing flows for authorizations and settlements.
- Lead long-term platform design for acquiring and gateway, focusing on scalable components.
- Seed and multiply domain knowledge through design reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Collaborate with external experts and partners in technical discussions.
Requirements
- Staff-level backend engineering experience designing and operating high-scale systems.
- Strong background in payments, POS, and acquiring backends with transaction processing experience.
- Hands-on experience with ISO 8583 or similar card-payment protocols.
- Experience working with POS or embedded payments hardware teams.
- Proven track record designing and evolving gateways or switches connecting to multiple acquirers.
- Ability to operate as a technical leader and mentor senior engineers.
- Strong communication skills and resilience in complex situations.
- Experience with PCI DSS v4.0 compliance standards.
- Comfort working in a hybrid model in Brazil, collaborating in English and Portuguese.
