Base Salary
$160k - $253k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design resilient enterprise retrieval architectures on distributed Elasticsearch environments.
- Own cluster governance and design, including node blueprints, capacity planning, mappings, shard strategy, Index Lifecycle Management, and cross-cluster replication and search.
- Design and operationalize semantic search architectures using kNN, Approximate Nearest Neighbor, ELSER, hybrid retrieval, and RAG pipelines.
- Profile, benchmark, and tune distributed search and indexing performance for high-QPS, sub-second-SLA environments.
- Architect petabyte-scale distributed ingestion and optimize cluster state, thread pools, and bulk indexing.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Core Engineering to influence the Elasticsearch roadmap and address enterprise edge cases.
- Publish best practices, reference architectures, and reusable solution patterns.
- Lead enablement initiatives and mentor senior engineers and internal technical staff.
Requirements
- 8+ years as a Principal Architect, Lead Engineer, or Senior Systems Consultant with deep, large-scale Elasticsearch expertise.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Elasticsearch distributed systems, consensus protocols, node roles, Apache Lucene indexing, and cluster state management.
- Production experience with semantic search using Elasticsearch machine-learning nodes, dense and sparse vector fields, modern NLP frameworks, and LLM orchestration tools.
- Advanced experience orchestrating cloud-based Elasticsearch workloads across AWS, Azure, and GCP using Docker and Terraform.
- Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Java, Python, and Go, plus Elasticsearch client libraries and custom plugin development.
- Exceptional executive presentation and storytelling skills.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent deep industry experience.
- Ability to work effectively across distributed global teams and travel to client sites as required.
