Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for developer environment and internal platform initiatives across multiple engineering teams.
- Identify, scope, and solve complex platform problems and drive initiatives from design documentation through adoption.
- Architect scalable infrastructure, self-service platforms, and CLIs that reduce friction and dependency on platform teams.
- Define tools, standards, engineering practices, and observability foundations for monitoring, logging, alerting, metrics, traces, and system health.
- Lead work across developer workflows, cloud development environments, IDE integrations, build performance, AI-assisted tooling, source control, monorepo tooling, CI/CD, release automation, and deployment safety.
- Partner with engineering and non-technical stakeholders, mentor engineers through code review and design feedback, and empower teams to own outcomes.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for critical platform services.
Requirements
- Staff-level background in Platform Engineering with solid programming experience in Python and Go.
- Experience with Java or TypeScript is a plus.
- Track record of leading complex, cross-team platform initiatives end-to-end and setting technical direction for others.
- Experience supporting large engineering organisations of 1,000 or more engineers.
- Strong AWS experience and Kubernetes experience involving autoscaling, pod lifecycle, scheduling, and managed-cluster configuration.
- Experience leading and shaping complex CI/CD pipelines at scale using Jenkins, GitLab CI, Buildkite, or similar tools.
- Experience with Bazel, Gradle, or similar monorepo build tools, with Bazel highly valued.
- Production observability experience implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Infrastructure as code proficiency with Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
- Preferred qualifications include release automation and deployment safety experience, developer tooling or internal developer platform experience, open-source infrastructure or developer-tool contributions, AI/LLM integration into developer workflows, and build performance or capacity and cost optimisation experience.
