Responsibilities
- Prepare technical design specifications and written knowledge-transfer materials based on functional requirements and analysis.
- Review functional requirements, analysis, and design documents and provide feedback.
- Implement, test, maintain, and support software based on technical specifications.
- Lead architecture, design, and implementation of robust, scalable web services and mission-critical systems.
- Improve system quality by identifying issues and patterns, developing standard operating procedures, and maintaining existing codebases.
- Enhance applications by identifying improvement opportunities, making recommendations, and designing and implementing systems.
- Perform peer code reviews and participate in architecture and code reviews.
- Collaborate with colleagues and cross-functional stakeholders to implement technical designs and deliver project outcomes.
- Investigate and apply relevant new technologies, including AI-native engineering practices, automation, and LLM-based approaches.
- Assist customer support with technical problems and questions.
- Work independently with broad decision-making latitude and lead or mentor less experienced developers when needed.
- Lead or participate in additional projects and duties as required.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of experience in Java full-stack development and 10 or more years developing systems or software for large business environments.
- At least 12 years of Java Enterprise Edition experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a master’s degree is a plus.
- Strong object-oriented design and service-oriented architecture principles, with the ability to implement them in Java or another language.
- Strong experience leading the architecture, design, and implementation of robust and highly scalable web services.
- Experience with AWS and/or Azure SaaS infrastructure, DevOps technologies, and extensive debugging.
- Understanding of unit testing, test-driven development, functional testing, and performance testing.
- At least 5 years of experience developing and debugging distributed systems and working with cloud-based big data systems.
- Experience with React-based front-end development is preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems and data architecture.
- Experience integrating with event buses such as Pulsar and cloud-based big data solutions such as Snowflake is preferred.
- Experience with software security-enhancing tools and best practices and knowledge of at least one shell scripting language.
- Understanding of big data and machine learning technologies, LLMs, automation, and engineering toolchains.
- Proven experience leading cloud, DevOps, or AI modernization initiatives and translating AI innovation into business and productivity impact.
- Ability to operate across business strategy, product strategy, high-level and detailed technical design, and implementation.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, presentation, facilitation, customer-focus, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
