Responsibilities
- Establish formal data practices and DataOps processes for the company.
- Build and operate stable, scalable, and high-throughput data architectures.
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop low-latency data solutions, self-service data pipelines, and reliable storage, ingestion, and transformation systems.
- Design and operate batch and streaming data pipelines supporting product, analytics, data science, and machine learning teams.
- Create and manage reporting APIs and methodologies for different reporting needs.
- Develop event-driven and asynchronous services using Kafka and other messaging, streaming, and datastore technologies.
- Apply engineering best practices for API design, code quality, testing, security, and healthcare data privacy.
- Use AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle while owning review, testing, and debugging of generated code.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and analysts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or an equivalent degree.
- At least 3.5 years of experience managing data at scale and building and operating batch and streaming data pipelines.
- Experience with public cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.
- Experience with Apache Spark, Kafka, Druid, Airflow, BigQuery, and ClickHouse.
- Experience designing data architectures optimized for performance and cost.
- Strong understanding of microservices, REST API design, distributed systems, system design, data structures, and clean architecture.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization; examples include PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Aerospike.
- Proficiency in SQL, Java, Spring Boot, Python, and Bash.
- Exposure to GraphQL or gRPC is preferred.
- Understanding of software engineering, DataOps, data architecture, Agile, and DevOps practices.
- Experience shipping work with AI across design, coding, testing, reviews, and documentation.
- Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot.
- Ability to apply security and data-privacy guardrails when using AI tools with healthcare data.
- Strong communication, ownership, problem-solving, learning, and collaboration skills.
