Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy, architecture, and engineering standards for a major product domain across multiple teams.
- Design dependable distributed systems using event-driven and cloud-native patterns.
- Establish standards for distributed tracing, structured logging, service-level objectives, alerting, and production reliability.
- Lead technical design reviews and document architectural decisions and trade-offs.
- Create system-level solutions that improve engineering productivity and remove recurring technical problems.
- Partner with product and data science colleagues on scalable technical designs.
- Define engineering quality measures covering testing, deployments, incidents, and recovery.
- Own critical systems throughout their lifecycle and participate in on-call support when required.
- Mentor engineers in system design, software quality, domain ownership, and responsible AI-tool usage.
- Define safeguards and review expectations for AI-assisted development and evaluate emerging development tools.
Requirements
- Extensive software engineering experience owning complex production systems and providing technical leadership across multiple teams.
- Expert proficiency in Python and TypeScript and deep knowledge of a significant product or technical domain.
- Extensive distributed-systems experience, including event sourcing, command query responsibility segregation, microservices, and service mesh patterns.
- Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, and platform reliability engineering.
- Experience leading platform, infrastructure, developer experience, or engineering productivity initiatives.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and improving technical judgment, documentation, and delivery practices.
- Advanced capability with AI coding tools for complex analysis, multi-file changes, automated test generation, and large-scale refactoring.
- Understanding of AI limitations, human-review requirements, data classification, privacy, bias mitigation, fairness, transparency, and output validation.
- Experience writing technical proposals and architectural decision records.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience; postgraduate study may be valuable but is not required.
- Ability to maintain adequate, secure, and private internet service for remote work and flexibility for infrequent travel.
- Must hold valid authorization to work in the United States.
