Base Salary

$173k - $251k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop Everlaw’s database and storage strategy across transactional databases, application architecture, caching layers, and analytics data stores.
  • Design and implement horizontal scaling, logical partitioning, sharding, multi-region replication, failover mechanisms, and tooling for replication lag and data consistency.
  • Optimize database performance through work on memory management, disk I/O, query execution plans, schemas, indexes, queries, and database internals.
  • Build SQL database migration tooling and strategies for low-downtime, high-availability operations.
  • Develop observability tooling to monitor database health and identify bottlenecks before they affect customers.
  • Serve as a software design owner, collaborate with engineering teams, and guide engineers in database expertise.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience and at least 3 years of database engineering experience.
  • Deep understanding of storage engines and locking mechanisms in at least one major RDBMS, with Postgres or MySQL preferred.
  • Proven experience managing databases in a cloud environment such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restrictions; Everlaw is not sponsoring employment visas for this role.
  • Practical vector search experience with Weaviate, Chroma, or pgvector to support embeddings and retrieval-augmented generation is a plus.
