Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and operate infrastructure and platform features for event-driven data pipelines.
- Develop user-facing abstractions over complex distributed infrastructure across the stack.
- Own systems end-to-end from problem identification through production rollout and on-call support.
- Write proposals, communicate technical trade-offs, and collaborate with Bloomberg teams to deliver improvements.
- Improve reliability, scalability, usability, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and post-incident learning for systems processing billions of events per day.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of backend engineering experience with Python, Go, or a comparable language, including occasional frontend contributions.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining distributed systems in production.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
- Understanding of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and production debugging.
- Product mindset focused on user impact, developer experience, and usability.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including design documents, operational updates, and incident follow-ups.
- Experience building platforms, frameworks, or infrastructure used by software engineers is preferred.
- Experience with Kubernetes or other containerized runtimes is preferred.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar telemetry technologies is preferred.
- Experience with S3, Cassandra, or comparable scalable storage technologies is preferred.
- Experience with deployment automation and reproducible operations is preferred.
- Experience building modern web applications using JavaScript, TypeScript, or React is preferred.
