Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and operate infrastructure and platform features for event-driven data pipelines.
- Develop reliable user-facing abstractions over complex distributed infrastructure across the stack.
- Own systems end-to-end, including problem identification, design, rollout, production operation, and on-call support.
- Identify technical and feature gaps, write proposals, communicate trade-offs, and collaborate across Bloomberg.
- Improve operational excellence through testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and post-incident learning.
Requirements
- 4+ years of backend engineering experience using Python, Go, or a comparable language, with occasional frontend contributions.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining distributed systems in production.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
- Understanding of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and production debugging.
- Product mindset focused on user impact, developer experience, and usability.
- Clear written and verbal communication for design documents, operational updates, and incident follow-ups.
- Experience with platforms, frameworks, or infrastructure used by software engineers is preferred.
- Experience with Kubernetes or other containerized runtimes is preferred.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar telemetry technologies is preferred.
- Experience with S3, Cassandra, or comparable scalable storage systems is preferred.
- Experience with deployment automation, reproducible operations, JavaScript, TypeScript, or React is preferred.
