Senior Backend Engineer - Data Integrations
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead and own the end-to-end architecture and direction of services, internal tools, and data systems.
- Design and build backend services and integrations that ingest engineering, tooling, and cost signals from multiple source systems.
- Create APIs and data contracts and replace manual extracts and recurring processes with durable, auditable, productized tools and analytics.
- Build reporting capabilities for engineering health, AI and tooling spend and ROI, cost, and capitalization.
- Drive significant projects from design through rollout in partnership with product and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Own quality, reliability, operational monitoring, automated testing, and production support for business-critical reporting.
- Mentor less experienced engineers through design reviews, constructive feedback, and agent-assisted engineering practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, building, and operating production full-stack systems, including data-intensive systems that automate manual business or operational processes.
- Proven ability to drive significant projects from design to rollout with strong technical and business understanding and cross-functional stakeholder collaboration.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, Kotlin, or TypeScript.
- Hands-on use of agentic engineering as a core part of the working process.
- Strong backend, API integration, SQL, and data modeling skills.
- Proficiency in a modern web frontend stack sufficient to prototype visualizations and review frontend work.
- Ownership of the full software lifecycle, including design reviews, automated testing, monitoring, and production support.
