
Senior Research Engineer, Threat Intelligence
SecurityScorecardResponsibilities
- Own the path from research output to production-ready detections, feeds, scoring inputs, and customer alerts.
- Build and maintain threat-intelligence platform components including distribution servers, sandbox orchestration, OSINT ingestion, federated sharing endpoints, agent runtimes, and rules engines.
- Create and distribute detection content such as YARA, Sigma, STIX patterns, behavioral indicators, and correlation pipelines.
- Drive STIX 2.1 output-schema adoption and TAXII 2.1 distribution-standard adoption while governing downstream data contracts.
- Automate indicator enrichment, report drafting, corpus correlation, feed normalization, and sandbox triage.
- Develop retrieval-grounded, schema-constrained, evaluated, logged, and cost- and latency-aware language-model workflows with analyst review.
- Coordinate with engineering, measurement, product, and platform teams to deliver research into products and communicate technical work to customers, journalists, or executives when needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, with strong self-taught practitioners and equivalent public work also considered.
- 5 to 8 years of hands-on engineering experience with meaningful exposure to threat intelligence, security research, or detection engineering.
- Required experience building production systems that consume or emit threat-intelligence data.
- Production-level Python and TypeScript/Node experience.
- Experience with relational and cache data stores and at least one streaming or batch data platform.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Working knowledge of STIX 2.1, TAXII 2.1, MISP, and MITRE ATT&CK.
- Hands-on experience with YARA, Sigma, and STIX Patterning, including writing detection logic for production workloads.
- Production experience shipping language-model systems with retrieval over real corpora, schema validation, evaluation harnesses, and safeguards against model failures and prompt injection.
- Ability to translate research ideas into deployed pipelines and production systems.
- Preferred qualifications include policy-as-code or expression-language experience, published security research, large-scale telemetry experience, open-source threat-intelligence contributions, familiarity with FAIR, and production-level Golang experience.
