Responsibilities
- Own voice agent backend services covering session lifecycle, call routing, participant management, conversation state, and real-time orchestration.
- Build and operate streaming pipelines integrating STT/TTS and real-time model endpoints while managing latency, backpressure, and jitter.
- Implement agent tool calling, sandboxed execution, retries, idempotency, rate limits, and tenant budgets and quotas.
- Develop integrations with telephony and RTC providers, calendars, CRMs, support tools, webhooks, and event streams.
- Model and store transcripts, audio metadata, agent actions, outcomes, evaluations, and audit trails for querying and replay.
- Drive reliability engineering through SLIs/SLOs, incident response, tracing, and automated degradation strategies.
- Implement security and privacy controls including secrets management, least privilege, encryption, data retention, PII redaction, and tenant isolation.
Requirements
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of production systems.
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including queues, workers, caching, and operational best practices.
- Excellent data modeling and API design skills, including versioning, contracts, and idempotency.
- Experience building or operating low-latency systems such as real-time streaming, WebSockets, RTC, or event-driven architectures.
- Ability to work in a high-velocity environment with a pragmatic, curious, and outcome-oriented approach.
- Preferred experience with WebRTC or RTC providers, telephony, streaming audio, SIP concepts, jitter and packet-loss mitigation, LLM and agent architectures, tool calling, planning and execution loops, memory and state, evaluation harnesses, and real-time observability.
