Responsibilities
- Develop, ship, and maintain secure, well-tested, performant external agent integrations in the GitLab monolith backend.
- Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST APIs and related backend logic.
- Build and maintain Ruby on Rails background jobs, APIs, and data models.
- Collaborate with Product Management, UX, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to deliver improvements.
- Extend automated testing with RSpec and other frameworks.
- Share engineering standards and patterns supporting responsible AI integration.
- Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, and improve observability and resiliency.
- Assess the competitive landscape and help evolve GitLab’s AI integrations.
Requirements
- Production experience building and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications, including background jobs, APIs, and data models.
- Experience designing or extending scalable, maintainable, backward-compatible REST or GraphQL APIs.
- Practical experience designing and shipping AI-powered backend features or integrations.
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
- Experience identifying and addressing application and, where relevant, infrastructure performance bottlenecks.
- Comfort working across the stack in a mature codebase.
- Familiarity with Python backends or Vue frontends is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate and apply transferable skills in an asynchronous, distributed team.
