Responsibilities
- Architect, design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable backend services using Python, Flask or FastAPI, and MongoDB.
- Design and optimize large JSON-based metadata and data governance models, including MongoDB schemas, queries, indexes, and performance tuning.
- Implement and document RESTful APIs using OpenAPI and Swagger.
- Integrate with external databases, file systems, APIs, and other data sources to collect metadata and related information.
- Support data security, compliance, auditability, governance, data lineage, stewardship, and data quality requirements.
- Collaborate with DevOps on monitoring, deployment automation, and delivery workflows.
- Mentor junior developers, participate in code reviews, and collaborate across enterprise technology teams.
Requirements
- At least five years of professional backend development experience.
- Expertise in Python and Flask or similar frameworks, with strong MongoDB experience including schema design, aggregation, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Experience designing and documenting RESTful APIs with OpenAPI or Swagger.
- Deep understanding of JSON data modeling and handling large, complex documents.
- Familiarity with data governance concepts including compliance, data lineage, stewardship, and data quality.
- Experience integrating databases, files, APIs, and other external data sources.
- Knowledge of authentication, authorization, secret management, and other security best practices.
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative software development workflows.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Preferred experience includes AWS, Azure, or GCP in regulated environments; Docker; Kubernetes; metadata cataloging or enterprise data governance platforms; Data Hub; Amundsen; large-scale data processing; distributed systems; monitoring; logging; and regulatory reporting solutions.
