Responsibilities
- Own parts of the CLI workspace runtime, including migrating users from the legacy IDE and enabling asynchronous background agent runs.
- Design and build agent-facing experiences including streaming responses, transparent tool calls, diff review, charting, and rich conversational analytics outputs.
- Extend dbt through MCP integrations for AI clients such as Claude and Codex.
- Lead well-scoped projects end to end by planning, partnering with design and product, shipping in two-week increments, and measuring outcomes.
- Share on-call and customer support responsibilities for owned surfaces.
- Mentor engineers earlier in their careers.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of production software development experience, including senior-level ownership of multi-month projects involving several people.
- Deep Python experience with exposure to TypeScript and experience with React.
- Experience building and maintaining developer-dependent tools such as an IDE, editor extension, CLI, SDK, LSP server, or data tool.
- Operational experience with APIs, Kubernetes, Postgres, observability, and production incident ownership.
- Strong written communication and ability to make technical arguments in documents.
- Experience working asynchronously on a fully remote, distributed team.
- Preferred experience shipping LLM- or agent-powered production features and evaluating latency, cost, and model limitations.
- Preferred experience with Language Server Protocol, Monaco, CodeMirror, or other code-editor internals.
- Preferred hands-on dbt, SQL, or data warehouse experience with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Preferred experience migrating users from legacy product surfaces and decommissioning them safely.
- Go, Rust, or systems-level performance experience is a bonus.
