Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend microservices and APIs for real-time biosensor data processing.
- Implement event-driven integrations with Kafka, RabbitMQ, and analytics pipelines.
- Collaborate with SRE to improve observability, performance, and operational excellence.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews covering service boundaries, data models, and communication patterns.
- Optimize backend services for low latency, high throughput, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Apply privacy-by-design and secure coding practices aligned with HIPAA and GDPR requirements.
- Write maintainable and testable code and uphold engineering standards.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
- Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to incident response and post-mortem analysis.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of backend engineering experience with distributed, cloud-native systems.
- Strong experience with microservices architecture and API design, including REST; GraphQL and gRPC familiarity is a plus.
- Production experience with Kubernetes and familiarity with service mesh concepts.
- Hands-on experience with messaging and streaming systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Backend programming expertise in Java, Kotlin, or Python.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and compliance requirements such as HIPAA or GDPR.
- Understanding of performance optimization, scalability patterns, and asynchronous data processing.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional work with engineering and product teams.
- Preferred: experience integrating backend services with analytics and machine learning pipelines.
- Preferred: exposure to API gateways, authentication and authorization patterns, and rate limiting.
- Preferred: background in digital health, IoT, or other mission-critical platforms.
- Preferred: familiarity with Azure, AWS, GCP, Terraform, and Helm.
