Senior Software Engineer
General MotorsResponsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve application performance issues in production and pre-production environments.
- Design and implement performance optimization strategies across web, mobile, APIs, microservices, databases, caching layers, networks, and infrastructure.
- Lead performance testing, load testing, capacity planning, and validation efforts to prevent performance degradation.
- Develop datasets and workloads that accurately represent the production environment.
- Collaborate with DevOps and SRE teams to improve system resilience and scalability.
- Participate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and architectural trade-off decisions.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth and engineering culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
- At least 7 years of backend development experience.
- Strong expertise designing and building high-scale distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency with performance tools such as K6 and JMeter.
- Strong knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Grafana, and Dynatrace.
- Deep understanding of virtualization, memory management, and networking.
- Proficiency profiling and optimizing all layers of the technology stack, including software, operating systems, and networks.
- Expertise with cloud and container ecosystems, including Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Preferred: master's degree in computer science or a related field.
- Preferred: proficiency with K6, NeoLoad, BlazeMeter, and LoadRunner.
Benefits
- Hybrid role requiring reporting to the Austin, Texas IT Innovation Center or Warren, Michigan GM Technical Center 3–4 days per week, Tuesday through Thursday.
