Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, secure systems for the eBay AI Platform across data preparation, model training, model serving, experimentation, and observability.
- Architect and optimize high-performance distributed systems, including reliability, scalability, performance, availability, and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and lead integration, modernization, and platform capability initiatives.
- Write production code, investigate issues, prototype solutions, conduct code reviews, and improve software development processes.
- Mentor engineers at all levels and provide technical leadership across engineering teams and organizational domains.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, data scientists, senior technical leaders, and business partners on architecture alignment, reuse, performance, and data consistency.
- Lead multifunctional projects, strategic technical initiatives, and effort estimation aligned with business objectives.
Requirements
- PhD or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience specializing in large-scale, high-performance distributed systems.
- Expertise designing and architecting sophisticated systems at scale, including distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Go and experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Experience with technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, MLflow, Airflow, Kubeflow, Nvidia Triton, Nvidia TensorRT, vLLM, or Ray.io.
- Strong scalability and performance-tuning skills for high-volume, critical applications and resilient AI frameworks.
- Experience applying autonomous AI coding agents, advanced prompting, and human-in-the-loop code review.
- Experience leading multifunctional projects, providing strategic technical leadership, influencing engineering practices, and estimating sophisticated projects.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Preferred experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, vector databases, graph databases, generative models, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
