Responsibilities
- Own work from requirements elaboration through design, implementation, testing, deployment, production support, and documentation.
- Design and build low-latency, high-throughput Java services for order routing and lifecycle management.
- Build and maintain FIX sessions and venue-specific market connectivity, including certification and conformance testing.
- Model order and execution state, including order types, partial fills, amendments, cancellations, rejects, reconciliation, and end-of-day processing.
- Implement correctness and auditability through idempotency, ordering guarantees, deterministic replay, and complete order-state trails.
- Support the platform during market hours through on-call participation and incident response.
- Conduct design and code reviews, mentor teammates, and improve testing, tooling, observability, and developer experience.
- Use AI coding assistants for development tasks and help establish prompting, guardrails, evaluation, and review practices.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience building and running production backend systems in Java, with comfort using Java 17, Java 21, or later.
- Deep JVM knowledge covering concurrency, the memory model, collections, allocation, garbage collection, profiling, latency, and throughput measurement.
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including messaging, delivery semantics, idempotency, ordering, backpressure, partial failure, and recovery.
- Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, including deterministic or property-based approaches where appropriate.
- Solid SQL and relational data-modelling experience, including schema evolution for systems requiring accurate order records.
- Comfort with CI/CD, containers, infrastructure as code, metrics, tracing, structured logging, alerting, and operating production software.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and the ability to work with dealers, traders, quants, and business stakeholders.
- Experience with an OMS, EMS, PMS, or comparable buy-side or sell-side trading system is strongly preferred.
- Production FIX experience, including FIX 4.2, FIX 4.4, FIX 5.0 FIXT, session and application layers, custom tags, counterparty dialects, QuickFIX/J or an equivalent engine, and venue or broker certification, is strongly preferred.
- Experience with market connectivity, including ITCH, OUCH, broker and liquidity-provider APIs, market-data feeds, direct market access, or order routing, is preferred.
- Knowledge of trading lifecycles, order types, time-in-force, execution algorithms, allocations, clearing and settlement, corporate actions, margin, risk, and multi-asset instruments is preferred.
- Knowledge of MiFID II, best execution, transaction and trade reporting, audit trails, and surveillance touchpoints is preferred.
- Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, other JVM languages, low-latency techniques, Kafka, Kubernetes, or public cloud is preferred.
- Experience with Python, C++, or Rust, particularly in trading environments, is advantageous.
