Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of Elasticsearch core storage engine components.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
- Drive cross-organizational initiatives for observability solutions involving logs and metrics.
- Improve operational practices, code quality, system clarity, and platform architecture.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor across the engineering organization.
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with global engineering teams.
- Write idiomatic modern Java for Elasticsearch.
Requirements
- Experience implementing novel techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or log data.
- Experience with one or more storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
- Strong core Java skills, including deep knowledge of concurrency primitives, data structures, and algorithms.
- Proven ability to design and optimize efficient, high-performance systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions in a globally distributed, asynchronous team.
- Experience using AI to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code while validating results with sound engineering judgment.
- Strong collaboration, communication, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.
- Experience with database, search engine, operating system, or cloud service development is a bonus.
- Experience with open-source projects and source-control workflows or continuous integration is a bonus.
