Responsibilities
- Build backend systems for Pinner-facing features and scalable online products.
- Lead or contribute to product development from ideation and prototyping through A/B testing, architecture, implementation, release, and operation.
- Design, develop, and operate large-scale distributed systems and networks.
- Partner with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and engineering customers to deliver end-to-end functionality.
- Own component and feature quality through automated testing and reliable, maintainable implementation.
- Lead projects, drive technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and contribute technical thought leadership.
- Improve developer processes and experiences across coding, deployment, and operation.
- Use AI to accelerate execution, synthesize information, and automate repeatable tasks while verifying AI-assisted output.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience developing backend products for consumer or business users.
- Proficiency with backend technologies for online services, storage, caching, and data processing.
- Experience writing reliable and maintainable code used by other engineers.
- Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or networks.
- Experience with Python, Java, C++, Go, or another programming language with willingness to learn.
- Experience leading or owning projects, mentoring others, or driving technical thought leadership.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to critically evaluate and verify AI-assisted work through testing, source-checking, data validation, or peer review.
- High integrity, ownership, protection of sensitive data, and accountability for decisions and deliverables.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with developer enablement or productivity, internal tooling, CI/CD, generative AI or LLMs, Spark, Flink, big data technologies, data science or analytics, or building products and internal tools from scratch is preferred.
