Responsibilities
- Own and drive hands-on design and development of complex, enterprise-scale Java applications.
- Lead technical direction for modules and subsystems while remaining actively involved in implementation.
- Modernize legacy and monolithic Java systems into modern, cloud-ready architectures.
- Design, develop, and maintain backend and full-stack features using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and databases.
- Design and integrate backend services, data models, and API-, file-, and message-based integrations.
- Build modular services and support microservices-based designs where applicable.
- Provide backend APIs supporting Angular and React frontend teams.
- Implement high-performance data processing and integration logic for analytical workflows.
- Apply object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and layered or hexagonal architectures.
- Perform technical trade-off analysis and contribute to application and solution architecture discussions.
- Ensure performance, scalability, security, maintainability, and code quality.
- Use unit testing, mocking frameworks, static code analysis, performance profiling, memory analysis, and JVM tuning to resolve bottlenecks.
- Support production performance tuning, stability improvements, deployment, and maintenance.
- Collaborate with QA teams to ensure test coverage and release quality.
- Participate in Agile and Scrum delivery activities, including planning, reviews, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across teams.
Requirements
- MCA or bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in Java-based software development on global or enterprise projects.
- Proven experience working in product development environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring or Spring Boot, RESTful API design, SQL, Angular, React, and MongoDB.
- Experience with microservices architecture, service communication, integration patterns, Hibernate or JPA, and transaction management.
- Experience with API-based, file-based, and message-based integrations; Azure Service Bus experience is relevant.
- Familiarity with Azure cloud-native development, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and cloud platforms.
- Understanding of Maven or Gradle for build and dependency management.
- Experience with software design patterns, layered architectures, performance optimization, unit testing, and mocking frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
- Knowledge of performance profiling, memory analysis, SonarQube, and automated testing.
- Experience with Scaled Agile, Lean, Kanban, Zero-Defect Development, and Lean Agile or Scrum methodologies.
- Shipping or logistics workflows, scientific data processing, genomics, or laboratory systems experience is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a continuous improvement mindset.
