Responsibilities
- Own provisioning, configuration, maintenance, uptime, and performance of PostgreSQL and MySQL instances across AWS RDS and on-premises environments.
- Design and implement automated failover, load balancing, and DNS management strategies.
- Write and maintain Terraform code for database infrastructure across environments.
- Build and manage Ansible playbooks and roles for deployments, configuration changes, and patching.
- Monitor, alert, and tune database systems using Prometheus and Grafana.
- Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations across PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redshift, ClickHouse, and DynamoDB.
- Manage and regularly test backup, restore, and recovery processes.
- Harden database security through access controls, encryption, and audits.
- Maintain and improve Linux systems hosting databases, including security hardening and performance tuning.
- Document configurations, runbooks, and disaster recovery plans, and participate in an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer with production PostgreSQL and MySQL expertise.
- Hands-on experience writing and maintaining Terraform infrastructure-as-code.
- Working knowledge of Ansible for configuration management and deployment automation.
- Strong Linux system administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience designing and operating high-availability solutions involving failover, replication, load balancing, and DNS management.
- Familiarity with Prometheus and Grafana or comparable monitoring tools.
- Bash and/or Python scripting ability for automation and operational tasks.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and database changes within deployment workflows.
- Experience working with access control, encryption, and audit trails in regulated financial services environments.
- Preferred experience with ClickHouse, Redshift, MongoDB, or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for database workloads is preferred.
- Financial services audit experience or other regulated-environment experience is preferred.
- AWS certification such as Database Specialty or Solutions Architect is preferred.
