Responsibilities
- Set front-end and mobile technical strategy across a tribe of 3–5 squads.
- Lead cross-squad engineering initiatives and shepherd RFCs from proposal to adoption.
- Build and maintain React and React Native systems while supporting and unblocking engineers.
- Own cross-platform architecture decisions for web and mobile using React, React Native, and TypeScript.
- Lead the evolution of the shared web and mobile design system.
- Coach and mentor engineers in system design, coding standards, and testing.
- Lead front-end and mobile communities of practice and drive adoption of engineering practices.
- Identify emerging technologies, build proofs of concept, and create adoption roadmaps.
- Drive observability, zero-downtime deployments, monitoring, and alerting for front-end applications.
- Design UI resilience and performance standards across web and mobile.
- Own threat modelling and security hardening for front-end products.
- Represent Flagstone through talks, podcasts, published content, and engineering-community engagement.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, designers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Staff Engineer or equivalent with a front-end and mobile focus.
- Deep expertise in React, React Native, and TypeScript, including cross-platform architecture.
- Experience owning and evolving a design system used across web and mobile applications.
- Strong system architecture and design skills, including SOLID principles, TDD, DDD, and software design patterns.
- Experience designing for resilience and performance at scale, including graceful degradation, zero-downtime deployments, observability, and performance budgets.
- Experience with Azure development and cloud-based infrastructure, including CI/CD and pipeline observability.
- Experience owning threat modelling and security hardening for front-end products, with strong knowledge of OWASP and secure coding practices.
- Track record of originating and shepherding cross-team initiatives or RFCs through adoption.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, leadership, problem-solving, strategic-thinking, stakeholder-management, and influencing skills.
- Comfort representing the company externally through talks, writing, or community engagement.
- Experience with Agile and Scrum practices.
