Staff Backend Engineer, Internal Products

Base Salary
$200k - $250k/yr
Responsibilities
- Unify internal beta access, evaluation, regression, and dataset discovery or cataloging products into one maintainable system.
- Build a secure access layer for petabyte-scale data across cloud environments, including access controls and PII handling.
- Integrate self-serve product feedback and usage data into datasets and evaluations.
- Build and harden an internal agent for retrieving context across organizational tools and data.
- Own internal products end to end, including scoping, architecture, implementation, shipping, and support for internal users.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering skills with depth in Python, Go, or a similar language, including designing durable data models, services, and APIs.
- Strong system design judgment and the ability to make and defend architectural decisions for ambiguous problems.
- Track record of building and shipping zero-to-one internal products.
- Ability to work as the primary or sole engineer establishing foundations for a larger team.
- Experience owning a product across scoping, implementation, launch, and internal-user support.
- Experience with large unstructured datasets.
- Full-stack capability sufficient to build usable interfaces when needed, with backend engineering as the primary focus.
- Preferred experience with data platforms, lakehouses, pipelines, object storage, warehouses, and multiple clouds.
- Preferred experience with multimodal unstructured data, AI agents, MCP servers, retrieval systems, evaluation tooling, data governance, access control, or PII handling.
