Base Salary
$195k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop the foundation of Onton’s neurosymbolic AI agent.
- Conduct self-directed, data-driven experiments from first principles.
- Address fundamental AI challenges including hallucination, context finiteness, catastrophic forgetting, world modeling, and logical consistency.
- Implement and ship AI software that is correct, robust, scalable, and maintainable.
- Collaborate on building a general problem-solving system capable of providing sufficient context for optimal decisions.
Requirements
- Significant experience in software engineering, machine learning, or research engineering.
- Deep, principled understanding of the current state of AI, especially neurosymbolic approaches.
- Some experience contributing to empirical AI research projects.
- Enjoys implementing AI systems, not only writing papers.
- Interest in non-purely-statistical approaches to AI.
- Ability to quickly and iteratively ship correct, robust, scalable, and maintainable code.
- Ability to work effectively on fast-moving, collaborative projects.
- A PhD or Master’s in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Linguistics, or a comparable field is preferred, or equivalent research experience.
- Must be able to attend onsite final-round interviews and work in the San Francisco hybrid environment.

- The team works hybrid, three days per week, from the San Francisco office.
- Relocation compensation is offered for candidates relocating to San Francisco.
- After one year, team members may transition to fully remote work while operating primarily on Pacific Time.
