Base Salary
$221k - $279k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the multi-year technical vision for Home and Cross-Retailer Search infrastructure.
- Own the architecture of Instacart's cross-retailer search platform.
- Manage Home feed ranking and content strategy, including personalized recommendations.
- Collaborate with ML teams to productionize ranking models and enhance experimentation infrastructure.
- Accelerate developer velocity by reducing time-to-production and building reusable components.
- Set technical standards through design reviews and observability practices.
- Lead major cross-organizational initiatives from scoping to post-launch.
- Translate ambiguous problems into clear technical strategies and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems.
- Proven experience as a technical lead or architect on cross-team initiatives.
- Deep expertise in backend systems, including high-throughput APIs and data pipelines.
- Experience building or scaling search, recommendations, or feed-ranking systems.
- Strong command of system design principles such as reliability and fault tolerance.
- Proficiency in backend languages like Ruby, Go, Python, or Java.
- Excellent communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder alignment.
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field.
