Responsibilities

  • Translate long-term business goals into scalable technical milestones and roadmaps with Product Leadership
  • Lead the architecture of distributed, event-driven, and cloud-native systems, including system boundaries, data consistency, and integration patterns
  • Drive AI-native engineering practices and implement intelligent AI features into the Appian platform
  • Set architectural and code-quality standards while reducing technical debt
  • Create internal frameworks and Golden Paths that improve developer productivity across engineering teams
  • Serve as the final escalation point for critical production outages and performance bottlenecks
  • Mentor Senior Engineers and influence engineering culture through design reviews and technical coaching

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; education from a highly selective engineering institution is preferred
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Deep expertise in Java or similar major programming languages, modern web technologies, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and object-oriented and functional programming
  • Proven experience leading technical initiatives from conception through global production deployment
  • Extensive experience building and scaling distributed systems in AWS cloud-native environments and modernizing applications or platforms
  • Strong enterprise application architecture, performance optimization, and large-scale codebase experience
  • Experience with AI/ML integration, including RAG or agentic workflows, is preferred
  • Experience using Amazon Q, Kiro, and Claude is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and advanced CI/CD automation
  • Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK observability stacks
  • Experience with relational, NoSQL, and vector databases
  • Understanding of enterprise security, including OAuth2, OIDC, and encryption at rest and in transit
  • Ability to communicate technical trade-offs in terms of business value, think systemically, take ownership, and mentor engineers
