Base Salary
$195k - $285k/yr
Responsibilities
- Implement, curate, extend, and improve the backend for Elicit’s living-document technology
- Build product functionality between backend-for-frontend endpoints and the machine learning models used by Elicit
- Develop known features and fixes, prototypes, and exploratory projects
- Own features in production and ensure they are scalable, resilient, and easy to operate
- Contribute to system design, performance evaluation, and architecture discussions
- Balance short-term feature delivery with extensible and maintainable systems
- Research and identify user-facing product improvements and technical improvements
- Maintain Elicit’s quality standards and contribute documentation and development-process improvements
Requirements
- Strong technical aptitude and backend engineering skills with strong computer science fundamentals
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for the capabilities of language models
- A defensive, fault-first mindset
- Above-average communication skills for explaining complex engineering topics to stakeholders across the company
- Ability to work effectively in a small, highly collaborative team and make user-focused technical trade-offs
- Comfort with backend concurrency, fault tolerance, distributed systems, JavaScript asynchronous programming, and Kubernetes concepts
